Beware of Scam jobs

Yes, even at oDesk.
A Verified employer is not an assurance that they are good employer.

I had applied 3 scam jobs and asked co-contractors to give me tips and advices thru community page.

I posted "I was asked to sign up on a site outside oDesk. After signing up, job post was canceled" on our discussion board" after I got scammed by an employer.

And guess what?  I found out that such employer is also a contractor like us and using co-contractors to earn in a wrong way.  They cheat people just to earn.

And got this tip from darrenjames, please take note:
   One warning sign that it's a scam is a referrer URL, something like:
    http://www.site.com/referrers_username
    ...what this often means is that the REFERRER gets paid for everyone he can convince to sign up.   You can copy and paste the URL into your browser and remove the referrer:
   http://www.site.com/
   ...and check out the site. Remove the referrer so they don't get paid for you going and checking the site out.

Chances of newbie at oDesk without feedback?

I understand how newbies who joined oDesk worry about getting hired.  I came from that stage too. Referring to my previous post, I got a lot of declined application also.

I just read a post on our discussion board with this question "Can someone tell me if there is still hope to getting a job without feedback or am I just wasting my time?" from DG.

With a lot of contractors , most of them with feedbacks, are bidding on the same job as your bidding also? How big is your chances? It is understandable that newbie like us will worry.


On my previous post, I share with you my very 1st contract at oDesk.  I've done my first contract and I have been paid already. I didn't get feedback yet.  And it is okay because I was offered for another task by the same employer and I am happy of that.  And you know what?  I got another job and hopefully for a long term.

So for newbie at oDesk like me, hang in there. As I've said on my reply to that post at the discussion board, "Don't loose hope".

I almost lost my patience.  I really wanted to work at home by working online.
With a  lot of notification received, " Your application to job "____ " was declined, I thought working at home is not for me.

But please, don't give up.  As I was chatting with one of oDesk Customer agent says, " it pays to be patient and deligent", if you really wanted to find telecommuting jobs and work at home..

I got a contract last July 28 to do a Data Entry task with a little of research.
I was so excited that the task suppose to be for one week was done within 3 days.

Hah!  At last!
And the good thing? My employer was so nice and accommodating.  He even offered me to do another round of the same task.

Isn't it nice to hear that we are now sure that Working Online was real.
And it's only here at oDesk.

As I was waiting for the feedback of my applications, I learned few things on how to bid on each job offered for you to find one and work at home.

I have a lot of declined applications and as I was reviewing other profile, it urge me to develop mine.

Here are some tips that may help you and would be applicable on your oDesk application or any other Online jobs you are applying for:

• Take oDesk Free Skills Tests
• it will help your profile looks competitive and will help you rate your skills and develop
• Try to review and edit your Contractor's profile
• to create professional look
• Apply for a job that would really fit your skills
•  don't go for quantity, go for quality
• Make a personalized cover letter
• Read and answer all info that employer you think would need
• it will catch their attention

Job Online: How can we get paid

I've been wondering how does Online Job works?  What would be your assurance that after working on the task givin by someone you haven't met personally that you will be get paid?

I am barely new with oDesk  and still trying to familiarize how it works.  With the feedback about the outcome of every completed contracts, I can say, I have chosen the right one.  Though I haven't got any task yet I applied for, I must say, I shall recommend this to our fellowmen.

However, one important thing to know is about the payment of the task completed.  We must make sure that this must not be the scam thing.

With the article share by Gem Baltazar, a Filipino, who is a member also of oDesk, who shared about getting paid at oDesk, I may say, getting paid at oDesk is guaranteed.  With her informative article  including how to withdraw at Paypal, am happy to know that Paypal is one payment option of oDesk for you to get paid.
